The 2-Ingredient Cleaning Spray That Makes Me Feel Like I Have My Life Together

There is something about a clean house that makes me feel like I suddenly have my entire life figured out.

The laundry may still be sitting in the dryer or on the floor. Someone probably left a cup in a room that isn’t theirs. A mystery crumb may or may not be stuck to the floor or the walls…. do not get me started on the walls.

But the counters are clean?

I am thrivin.

And lately, I’ve been making my own simple cleaning spray with two basic ingredients: vinegar and rubbing alcohol, plus whatever herbs I have on hand.

Why Make Your Own Cleaner?

I’m not going to lie. Cleaning products are horrible for our health. They just are. No matter the road you take around it, cleaning your house is all the sudden trap of a chemical warfair and not to mention dangerous for kids, pets, plants and humans. Now that we understand that, lets change that. How? Im so happy you asked.

By making a simple DIY cleaner that is easy, cheap, and SAFE.

What You Need

• 1 cup white vinegar
• 1 cup rubbing alcohol
• Herbs of your choice
• A clean spray bottle
• Optional: a little patience while the herbs infuse

That’s it.

No complicated ingredient list. No chemistry degree required.

Pick Your Herbs

This is where you can have a little fun.

Use whatever herbs you like or happen to have around.

Some ideas:

🌿 Rosemary – fresh, herbal scent
🌿 Lavender – soft and calming
🌿 Mint – fresh and bright
🌿 Thyme – earthy and clean-smelling
🌿 Lemon peel – because apparently everything is better when it smells like lemon

You can use one herb or make your own little herbal combination.

Basically, we’re making a cleaning spray with a personality. So, add flowers, basil, lime juice, grass? Hey, some people like that scent.

How I Make It

Add your herbs to a clean jar and pour in the vinegar. Please use a glass spray bottle and not plastic for many reasons, one being that plastic breaks down and microplastics get into the spray, and you’re then spraying it all over your home.

Let it sit for several days so the vinegar can pick up some of that herbal goodness.

After it has infused, strain out the herbs or leave them in for a nice effect. You know aesthetics. Then Pour in the rubbing alcohol and pour it into a spray bottle.

Give it a little shake and you’re ready to clean.

And yes, I absolutely feel fancy pouring homemade cleaner into a pretty glass bottle.

Does the bottle make it clean better?

Why yes. Because it’s glass and won’t break down. So, you see what I’m saying now?

What Can You Use It For?

I like this kind of simple spray for general household cleaning, especially things like:

• Kitchen counters
• Sinks
• Bathroom surfaces
• Door handles
• Light switches
• Other hard, non-porous surfaces
• All glass material and mirrors
• Cars, desk, and floors

Always test it on a small, inconspicuous area first.

And here’s the important part:

Do not use vinegar-based cleaners on natural stone surfaces like marble or granite, because vinegar can damage them.

Also, never mix vinegar with bleach or other cleaning chemicals. We are trying to clean the house—not accidentally create a science experiment in the kitchen and die. Seriously, it makes mustard gas; I think that’s what it’s called? Regardless, it’s a dangerous combination.

My Favorite Part

The best part isn’t even the cleaning.

It’s opening the cabinet and seeing one simple bottle instead of a collection of cleaning products staring back at me like they have expectations.

I like simple.

I like homemade.

I like knowing what I’m spraying around my home.

And I especially like anything that makes cleaning feel just a tiny bit more enjoyable.

Because let’s be honest…

I’m still cleaning the same mess tomorrow.
