Only One True Product for Long Hair

So, long hair is what you want, eh? Or even just some texture, thickness, shine, or anything? I know. I have been there. I guess I’ll always be there because I’m always growing out my hair, wanting this or that to happen, but I always come back to one thing.
I mean, look, there are many things you can do, take, and get on your knees and pray about. It all helps; I’ve done it all. And no, it’s not genetics. Just ask my momma.
I’m also not saying my hair is the best in the world. Oh my gosh, look at it. So, chill. I’m just saying what I use.
If you know me, you know I’m about to say coconut oil.
Sure did. I said the C word.
Y’all know I am serious.
Not only does it nourish, protect, and strengthen, but it also cleanses your scalp, which is where the hair grows (didn’t know if you knew that), and it must be cleaned.
It’s kind of like the bedroom for the hair. It has to remain clean—but lived in, smells nice, and maybe has some oils around.
Clean the Scalp, Grow the Hair
So now that we broke down the physics part (insert joking here), let’s talk about the hair.
Your hair, my hair, everyone’s hair loves to be nourished like a little plant.
So take care of your hair.
Complaining that your hair isn’t growing while you pull it out, fry it, talk crap to it (yes, energy counts), or use the wrong brush that pulls it out? It will stop doing its job of growing and will prefer to fall off.
Be gentle. Give it nice food (shampoo and conditioner), brush nicely, and because your hair is attached to your body, yes, diet counts.
The amount of water you drink counts, too.
Well, we’ll save the importance of food and hair for another blog. I don’t want to piss you off just yet.
But yes, you are what you eat.
It’s true what they say.
Hey, I don’t make the rules, okay?
Coconut Oil: The One Product I Keep Coming Back To
Coconut oil is the one product I have used for about 20 years now.
I still remember when I found it and used it instead of lotion. Then I thought, Well, if it’s good for your skin, surely your hair would benefit too.
Sure enough, my hair took off from there.
It’s not extensions.
It’s not some magic pill.
It’s not some fancy shampoo or conditioner, although that’s important.
It’s coconut oil.
I Use Coconut Oil for Everything
I’m going to get real crazy right now and tell you I use coconut oil for everything.
I use it for lotion, face cream, hair care, nail care, eyelash care, teeth and oil pulling, toothpaste topper, rash? Infection? No problem. Eye pain, pink eye, or cuts? Bug bites? Sunscreen?
Yep.
Does it all.
I use it for me, my kids, and anyone who wants to listen because I am that serious about my oils.
The world was taught oils are bad!
But they are wrong.
Oils are what keep us healthy, strong, and strengthen every single part of our body. We need oils.
Don’t get me wrong—there are different oils for different things. Some clean, some moisturize, but they all do something.
It’s no wonder they have been used since Jesus walked the earth and before.
The Egyptians used them as gifts, Italy used them as medicine, and Jesus carried frankincense with Him.
Some say these oils were traded and thought of as gold.
So what happened?
Well, they want it for themselves. And by they, well…Google it so I don’t get canceled, okay?
You’ll see.
Then come back here and tell me I’m right so I know we’re still friends.
Let’s Talk About Coconut Oil Again
Also, if you ever need a gift for me, coconut oil or pure olive oil from the freaking olive—no synthetic crap—I’ll be so happy.
Okay, thanks.
But it has to be unrefined.
So look for unrefined coconut oil.
Melt it over a pot, not in the microwave. Let’s not even get into the dangers of microwaves or how it kills the nutrition of food. Let’s keep it classy.
So, melt it over a pot on low. Don’t burn it, okay? This is easy stuff.
Melt it to a paste and rub it into your hair and scalp. Let it sit for an hour or longer.
(I’ve gone days looking like a monk walking around, but you do you, boo.)
Then rinse.
You will have to shampoo twice and then condition like normal.
Then, when your hair is dry, add a bit more to your hands, rub them together, and add it to your hair.
Or get a nice hair oil and use that, but follow up with a hair oil and try to let your hair air dry.
Be Consistent
Be consistent.
You heard me right when I said I have been doing this for 20 years.
Nothing great came easy or even fast.
So be patient.
We live in a world of instant gratification, but this ain’t it.
Longevity is what we are here for.
The process will always be slow and steady around here, so either enjoy the ride or hop off.
But this?
This is the one product I swear by for long hair.
